About Metalmite

Our Mission

“To provide a quality machine shop service that is on time and reasonable.”

Tom Gendich, President

Tom grew up in the in the manufacturing environment. He can recall deburring parts and sweeping floors back to his early childhood. As a teenager he too learned to run machinery and draw parts to print. Upon graduating high school, Tom pursued a lifelong dream to become a pilot and an airframe and power plant mechanic while obtaining a degree in Aviation at the same time. Returning to his roots he continued to work in manufacturing with a keen interest in Aerospace and Technology. Tom since went on to achieve a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and become the Vice President of Metalmite Corporation.

When he became President, Tom continues to keep his father’s vision alive as he studies Lean Manufacturing principles and the modern mechanization of ISO 9001:2008 processes and applies them to Metalmite. In the pursuit to always find a better way, Tom has chosen to pursue the 3 P’s of Metalmite: Precision, Performance, and Price!

Michael Gendich III, Metalmite Founder, Retired

Michael’s extensive manufacturing background starts in the 1950’s in Downtown Detroit where he learned the trade of machining as a teenager. He graduated in 1958 and attended the University of Detroit School of Engineering, where he was trained in Drafting, Metallurgy, and Business principles. After working as a draftsman, a salesman, and as a shop manager, Michael became inclined to start his own Machine shop. He dreamed of a maximum efficiency shop that could utilize modern technologies and work as a team to solve industry problems. Thus, in 1968 Metalmite Corporation was born out of one man’s dream for a better way of manufacturing. Michael has since invested in the best CNC equipment the industry could offer, CNC lathes, CNC mills, CNC Grinders, Wire EDM, and even CNC saws. The Lean manufacturing concept is finally catching on industry wide, but Metalmite was born with this concept in mind and has been perfecting it for over 41 years. Michael was commonly heard saying, “We do it right at Metalmite!” Michael retired in 2010.  Mike went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2013.  Click here for memories of Mike Gendich.
